When Should I Start My Apartment Search?

The most common question we get from clients is when should I start my apartment search. Whether you are looking for an apartment, a loft, or a loft-style apartment, we can help guide you in the right direction. We visit all the properties on a weekly and sometimes a daily basis, and we know the onsite leasing agents and managers. They keep us in the loop as to what specials are available, and what the current pricing and availability is. We will do all the legwork for you by calling each place you are interested in to save you the time and frustration of having to do it yourself. There are almost 500 properties in just the downtown area alone, so we may know of places that you may have never even heard of.

Most properties require the current tenants to put in a sixty-day notice prior to moving out. This means that the properties will not know what they will have available until they receive these notices. Now this doesn’t mean you can’t start previewing places online. Once you have an idea of when you want to move, then we can help you get started on the process of finding a new place by talking to you in depth about what part of town you want to be in, what your style is, and what your preferences are. We recommend calling us at 469-222-2693 about one to two weeks before you are sixty days out. Next we will put together a list of properties for you to start previewing online. Once you have had time to look through the list, then you can let us know which places look the most interesting to you, and we will be able to adjust the list even further. Finally, we will make an appointment with you to go see some places.

Now some people are not comfortable putting in their sixty day notices without having another place lined up already. If this is your situation, then we can always look at some of the many new properties that are opening up and still in a “lease up” phase. They will sometimes let you lease up to six months out, and so this is sometimes a good option for these people, or for people moving here from out of state, that don’t have a way to come look at places before they move here. That being said, there are always lots of places available immediately, so even if you are the person that waits until the last minute to start looking, don’t worry. We can still find you something!

Finally, if we find something that you love, be prepared to sign the lease as soon as possible. The place you looked at and loved today was probably looked at and loved by someone else yesterday that could be on their way back to take it off the market. The great places go fast in Dallas, so we just don’t want you to be disappointed.
